Just like how you need to break a few eggs to make an omelet, Colin Trevorrow knows you need to smuggle out a few dinosaur eggs to make a sequel.
In a cryptic new photo from Jurassic World 2, Trevorrow — who yields the director’s chair this time around to A Monster Calls‘ J. A. Bayona — teases a picture of dinosaur eggs in an incubator waiting to hatch, in an eerie parallel to the classic scene in the lab from the original Jurassic Park.
It’s a nice callback to one of Jurassic Park‘s classic scenes, in which scientists Alan Grant (Sam Neill) and Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) watch in awe as a Velociraptor hatches from an egg while B.D. Wong‘s Dr. Henry Wu smugly explains the science, causing a skeptical Ian Malcom (Jeff Goldblum) to utter his famous phrase, “Life … finds a way.”
But this picture is ostensibly a reference to Dr. Henry Wu, whose ever-lasting presence throughout all the Jurassic Park movies prove that he’s not to be overlooked or underestimated. Has he set up an illegal shop with InGen to continue his dinosaur research or has he been recruited by a government agency to breed them for suspicious purposes? Military-bred dinosaurs would be a terrifying follow-up to the genetically-enhanced Big Bad of Jurassic World, the Indominus rex.
We also know that the original T-Rex from the first Jurassic Park is returning and that we are going to get to see the dilophosaurus for the first time since the first movie, thanks to some recently surfaced set photos.
The Jurassic World 2 cast includes Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, B.D. Wong, Toby Jones, Rafe Spall, Daniella Pineda James Cromwell, Geraldine Chaplin and Ted Levine and is set for release on June 22, 2018.
