  Great television shows for make-up artists to watch #MakeUpArtist #TDSvoices Face Off is a competition reality show that explores the world of special-effects make-up artists. It is a great show that highlights creativity, ability and skill. What makes the show very informative is that it shows a range of skill sets including sculpting, casting, prosthetics and so much more.
It is extraordinary to see how talented some make-up artists are. The contestants on Face Off for example, usually create entrancing work at the end of each episode. Face Off is a great reminder as to how much work goes into special effects make-up. The make-up industry in Kenya isn’t diverse enough when it comes to make-up and with the rising television industry, special effects make-up should be explored by most aspiring make-up artists, as it may be the next big thing.

If you know this show, you might be wondering why I have featured it here, isn’t it just about models? Yes and no; at its core America’s Next Top Model is an American reality television series that showcases different aspiring models as they compete for the title of  “America’s Next Top Model.” However, the reason it is a brilliant show for make-up artists is simply because it focuses a lot on the face. Throughout the show, a lot of beauty photography is done, and what you notice is that ultimately make-up plays a vital role in who wins and loses. The fact that at the end of each round(episode), each woman shows a picture of themselves at their best, mostly headshots, is again what makes the show eye-opening for any make-up artist interested in beauty or fashion.





As a make-up artist, you look for inspiration everywhere and RuPaul’s Drag race is a great place to learn about the world of drag queens and make-up. Don’t be scared away by the name, drag queens have some of the most amazing make-up transformations in the industry. RuPaul’s Drag Race is an American reality competition television series that features RuPaul as he searches for America’s next drag superstar. So far the show has won numerous words, including the 21st Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) Media Awards, it has also been nominated for a Creative Arts Emmy Award for Outstanding Make-up for a Multi-Camera Series or Special (Non-Prosthetic). So, it is a remarkable gem for a make-up artist. It can get a bit dramatic, but what beauty reality show isn’t?
